Benign tumor

18 - Parotid gland, pleomorphic adenoma - Gross, cut surface
Most tumors of this kind present as rounded, well-demarcated, yellow-white masses that rarely exceed a diameter of 6 cm. In some cases, the capsule is not fully developed, and tumor extends to the margin of resection. The recurrence rate with adequate parotidectomy is about 4%, but with attempted enucleation only, recurrence approaches 25%.
